Today at 09:57:01 UTC PRODIGY went after a tough battle for the last half-mile elapsed time as the winner crossed the finish line - and reduced the course record by just over 9 days. Nine days .... How so? OCEAN SPIRIT record holder was a 71-foot yacht skippered by Robin Knox-Johnston, who stopped the record in 1971 at 23 days and 40 minutes. 2011, the regatta was sailed for the first time on the direct course from Cape Town to Rio after between either further course marks were installed, and Rio was not the aim of the regatta. PRODIGY's received the opportunity to take on a 40-year-old record.
is on corrected time PRODIGY currently on the 5th place, CITY OF CAPE TOWN on the first.
Congratulations to the South African team!
