Velux 5 Oceans - Bullens impressive battle for Cape Town

49 days 22 hours and 55 minutes after the start in La Rochelle is now the Belgian Christophe Bullens arrived with his Eco 60 FIVE OCEANS OF SMILES as the last of the five colleagues in the Velux 5 Oceans fleet in Cape Town. 6 weeks a pretty long time for this 7,500-mile range, but the combination of solo sailing, mainsail problems, lots of water in the boat, failure of electronics, health problems and repair stops can all look very impressive, particularly in the category of perseverance and ingenuity. Hats off, because with all the adversities probably everyone would have understood if Bullens would eventually throw in the towel. And also quite early, because in the transfer of his boat to the start of this flew apart, and he had to get a new short term in order to participate at all.

If there is a "Spirit of the Regatta Cup in this race, then it is probably safe Bullens.

28 days, 01 hours and 51 minutes had used the first to the finish line below Table Mountain, Brad Van Liew and his PINGOUIN LE. Here is the complete list:

first Brad Van Liew / LE PINGOUIN: 28 days, 01 hours, 51 minutes
second Zbigniew Gutkowski / OPERON RACING: 31 days, 06 hours, 3 minutes
third Derek Hatfield / ACTIVE HOUSE: 33 days, 22 hours, 37 minutes
4th Chris Stanmore-Major/SPARTAN: 36 days, 44 minutes
5th Christophe Bullens / FIVE OCEANS OF SMILES: 49 days, 22 hours, 55 minutes
